Tiananmen Square
Covering an area of 40, 000 square meters at the center of Beijing city, the Tian'anmen Squar is the largest urban square in the world, with a capacity of 1 million people. In the north of the square is Tian'an Gate, the Gate of the Heavenly Peace, which is used as the front gate of the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Today, it is the venue for important ceremonies.
Forbidden City
Forbidden City Beijing, also called Imperial Palace Museum, is located in the very heart of Beijing. It remained the residence of the emperors for nearly five hundred years, from the 15th century to the early 20th century, and was the actual and symbolic seat of imperial power. It was built in the Ming Dynasty between the 4th and the 18th years of the Yongle period (1406 - 1420 AD).
Summer Palace
The Summer Palace mainly comprises Wanshou Hill that means longevity in Chinese, and Kunming Lake. The Temple of Heaven
The Temple of Heaven is the most holy of Beijing's Imperial temples. It has an area of about 2,700,000 square meters. Built in 1420; it was where Ming and Qing monarchs prayed for good harvests. Major structures are hall of Prayer for good Harvest, Imperial Vault of Heaven, Circular Altar, and Abstinence Palace.
Bird nest
Beijing National Stadium, the main stadium for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, is the world's largest steel structure. The steel structure is composed of 24 columns of trusses which surround the bowl-shape stands in the stadium. Because all components of the steel structure support each other and form a netting out shape, the National Stadium is well-known as the "Bird's Nest."
Water Cube
The Water Cube is the Beijing Aquatic Center built for swimming competitions for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The structural design is based on the natural formation of soap bubbles which give a random, organic appearance. The building uses solar energy to heat the pools and the interior area, and all backwash water is filtered and returned to the swimming pools.
Beihai Park
Beihai Park located in central Beijing, is one of the oldest and most authentically perserved imperial gardens in China. It has a history of 1000 years. The park occupies an area of 69 hectares including a 39-hectare lake. In the garden, pavilions and towers nestle amid the beautiful scenery of lakes and hills, grass and trees. Carrying on the traditions of garden landscaping of ancient China Beihai is a gem of garden art.
