Getting Around in Beijing

Tip
When traveling around Beijing, ask for a card with the hotel's name in Chinese from the receptionist of your hotel. This will be very useful when directing taxi drivers or if you get lost.

By Taxi
The easiest means of getting around in Beijing is by taking one of the city's many taxis. The drivers are always happy to give advice to visitors. Visitors do not need to worry about not being able to get back to their hotel, because every hotel will offer its guests a business card written in Chinese and English that will inform the taxi drivers where you are staying and how to take you back there. Some visitors like to hire a driver for a day. It is much cheaper than using the meter, and is very convenient.

By Bus
There are many public bus lines which can take you to the every corner of Beijing. Taking the bus is one of the best and most convenient ways to get around the city. The cost of the bus depends on the distance traveled.  The public buses make stops at all of the city's major sites and the commercial centers. There are some express buses which connect the major sights such as The Forbidden City, The Great Wall, and the Summer Palace.  Many buses announce the stop names in both Chinese and English.

Tourist Train
Tourist trains are always fast, inexpensive and efficient, taking passengers directly to the desired tourist attractions located in suburban districts.

Subway
There are now five existing subway lines traversing the city, and 2 Yuan Flat Fee System is implemented on the subway system.
