Catalonia Palace of Congresses, Barcelona, Spain, November 4-7, 2010

  Plastic Surgery Print

Friday, November 5, 2010          Hall C - Plastic Surgery (PS)

Session PS.1
08:30-10:00 PANEL DISCUSSION: CHANGING ENVIRONMENT OF AESTHETIC MEDICINE: PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE
Capsule: The ever-growing list of non-certified physicians who are dealing with aesthetic medicine should be addressed.  Do we opt for co-existence or total rejection?

08:30-09:00 Keynote address: Who should be practicing aesthetic medicine?
09:00-10:00 Panel discussion

10:00-10:30 Coffee Break

Session PS.2
10:30-12:00 ADULT REGENERATIVE STEM CELLS: AN ADJUNCT TO FAT GRAFTING AND ITS OTHER APPLICATIONS
Capsule: Increased interest in the role of fat-derived stem cells in fat grafting

Debate: Should we be using "stem cells" derived from fat tissue as an adjunct to fat grafting?
10:30-10:45 Yes, fat-derived "stem cells" can be used to imprive the long-term results of fat grafting
10:45-11:00 No, fat-derived "stem cells" are still under investigation and risk of neoplastic induction is still unknown
11:00-11:15 Discusison

11:15-11:35 Lecture: Looking into the future: Other types of indications in fat grafting
11:34-12:00 Panel discussion

12:00-12:30 Poster Viewing

Session PS.3
12:30-14:00 BREAST AUGMENTATION SURGERY WITH SILICONE IMPLANTS
Capsule: Do the implants make a difference?

Debate: Form stable high cohesive silicone gel implants or non form stable low cohesive silicone gel implants?
12:30-12:50 Pro, formed stable anatomical implants produce a better result that non form stable ones
12:50-13:10 Con, round implants produce the same results as anatomical ones with a lower rate of rotational problems
13:10-13:30 Discussion

13:30-14:00 Lecture: Anatomic stable shape implants - how to get better results in another concept of building an augmented breast?  More breast tissues manipulation and less implant-based resources for breast reconstruction

14:00-15:00 Lunch Break

Session PS.4
15:00-16:30 AUTOLOGOUS TISSUE VS. IMPLANTS FOR BREAST RECONSTRUCTION
Capsule: Better results depend on the implant or the surgeon?

Debate: Can modern implants achieve similar long-term results when both breasts are reconstructed?
15:00-15:20 Yes, bilateral treatment of breast cancer with implants provides long-term stability of results with less morbidity and scarring
15:30-15:40 No, autologous breast reconstruction provides better long-term stability of results
15:40-16:00 Discussion

16:00-16:30 Lecture: TBA

16:30-17:00 Coffee Break

Session PS.5
17:00-18:30 WOUND HEALING

Saturday, November 6, 2010          Hall C - Plastic Surgery (PS)

Session PS.6
08:30-10:00 PANEL DISCUSSION: INDUSTRY-PHYSICIAN RELATIONSHIPS: WHAT HAS BEEN THE EXPERIENCE?
Capsule: What scientific tools are available for appraisal of the plethora of new compounds and devices striking the market so frequently?

08:30-10:00
Questions for discussion:
1) What level of scientific evidence is necessary before introducing a new technique or compound?
2) Who is responsible for complications related to products?
3) Facial collagen-stimulating techniques: What type of documentation relating to clinical improvements should be demonstrated before release of a new technique?
4) Is microscopic collagen increase without clinical improvement data enough?
5) Skin contracture in body contouring: What type of documentation relating to clinical improvemetns should be demonstrated before release of a new technique?
6) When is clinical data sufficient?
7) When is case demonstration enough and when do we need double-blind randomized investigations?

10:00-10:30 Coffee Break

Session PS.7
10:30-12:00 AUTOLOGOUS FAT HARVESTING AND GRAFTING
Capsule: Why is there no agreement on the best technique for fat harvesting, processing and injection?

Debate: Is fat processing important for the success of injection?  What are the risks?
10:30-10:45 Yes, it is safer to harvest fat in a simple manner and inject it in its native form
10:45-11:00 No, processing the fat before injection increases the success of the procedure
11:00-11:15 Discussion

11:15-11:30 Lecture: The pros and cons of segmental and suction harvest fat: How should fat be treated to increase survival?

11:30-11:45 Lecture: Can a simple "cook book" for fat grafting be devised?

12:00-12:30 Poster Viewing

Session PS.8
12:30-14:00 FAT GRAFTING II
Capsule: Is fat grafting capable of replacing common injectable products?

Debate: When should fat grafting be preferable to other non-surgical and surgical techniques?
12:30-12:45 Face "fat grafting" has no quantity limits, achieves good long-lasting results and is the healthiest option
12:45-13:00 "Fat grafting" results are not predictable
13:00-13:15 Discussion

13:30-13:45 Lecture: Facial fillers or fat injection: What is preferable?

13:45-14:00 Lecture: Autologous fat transplant to the face: A good adjunct to facial rejuvenation but sometimes unpredictable and not free of complications

14:00-15:00 Lunch Break

Session PS.9
15:00-16:30 MOH'S SURGERY

16:30-17:00 Coffee Break

Session PS.10
17:00-18:30 Session in development
