  About Valencia Print

Valencia is the capital of the Comunidad Valenciana and the third city of Spain.
Not many cities are able to combine a fine array of sights from the past with innovative constructions now being erected to mark the start of a new millennium.
Valencia, which was founded in 138 BC, is one of these fortunate few.

Strolling around Valencia, one can sense the centuries of history, from the remains of the Roman forum founded by Junius Brutus, to the emblematic City of Arts and Sciences.

Valencia has many ancient customs, traditions and centuries-old festivities, which local inhabitants have integrated into present-day pageantry.

Visitors can enjoy its numerous gardens and parks including the river bed park.
The river was diverted after a heavy flood in the late 1950s and is now a park with gardens, sports facilities, and childrens playgrounds.

On the Malvarrosa beach, which is now a compulsory visit, visitors can stroll along the seafront promenade, which is full of restaurants and cafés. In the early 20th century it was a meeting point of Valencia's aristocracy during the summer.

The city has become a leading congress and conference venue with a complete range of infrastructures and services, plus a full line-up of cultural pursuits and entertainment.

All this, combined with Valencia's mild climate and the city's rice dishes and specialities makes the city inviting and hospitable, ready to be enjoyed.
