Dear Friends and Colleagues,
The world has changed tremendously over the past thirty years. In a few short decades, we have found ourselves in a digital age where we can obtain information, share knowledge or communicate with anyone in the world at the speed of light; we have welcomed a new century and most especially, a new millennium.
Nowhere has change been more evident than in the field of reproductive medicine. When Professor Seang Lin Tan began his career thirty years ago, IVF was in its infancy. The conception and birth of Louise Brown heralded a revolution in assisted human reproduction and since then several million IVF babies have been born around the world.
Mentored by Nobel Laureate Professor Robert Edwards and Professors Stuart Campbell and Howard Jacobs, world-renowned pioneers in the field of reproductive medicine, Professor Tan co-founded the London Women’s Clinic with them in 1992. Throughout his career, he has helped to perpetuate their legacy of innovation. After moving to McGill University in Montreal to assume the position of the James Edmund Dodds Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University and Obstetrician and Gynecologist-in-Chief at the McGill University Health Centre, he founded McGill Reproductive Centre in 1996 and has served as its Medical Director ever since. Under his leadership, the Centre has become internationally recognized as a leader in research and the development of cutting-edge treatments such as in-vitro maturation (IVM) and fertility preservation.
Most recently, Professor Tan founded the Montreal Reproductive Centre (www.mtrlrc.com) which aims to bring together the clinical and scientific excellence he introduced at the McGill Reproductive Centre with the personalized care he offered at the London Women’s Clinic.
As an educator and researcher, the sharing of knowledge has been an integral part of Professor Tan’s academic life. Thirty Years of Advances in Reproductive Endocrinology and ART: A Celebratory Congress will mark the outstanding achievements and contributions of Professor Tan as he reaches this special milestone in his career. We are honored to welcome a faculty of pre-eminent speakers who have been teachers, mentors, colleagues and students of Professor Tan over the years. The Congress will serve as an exclusive platform for these experts to share and compare experiences as well as to promote debate and discussion based on scientific and clinical practice. Furthermore, in recognition of the ever-increasing role that IVM is playing in ART practice, the first international consensus meeting will be held during the Congress to discuss its application and standardization of practice.
For those involved in clinical practice, clinical support and research in the field of reproductive medicine, this important event is not to be missed.
