  Tips and Hints Print

Currency, banks and money exchange
The official currency of the Czech Republic is the Czech crown (koruna), abbreviated as Kč, with the international abbreviation CZK.
1 crown consists of 100 hellers (haléř), abbreviated as hal. Heller coins have not been in use as of September 1, 2008, but hellers are still incorporated into merchandise prices. The final price is always rounded off to the nearest crown value.

It is recommended to change money in a bank or take cash out of ATM machines, which are plentiful in Prague and every larger town.

The approximate value of 100 CZK is 4 EUR/5 USD.

Weather
Czech Republic lies in the temperate climate zone, which is characterized by cool summers and cold, cloudy and humid winters.

October
The true fall usually comes in October and lasts through November. October is typically chilly (10-14°C/48-57°F) with a mixture of rainy and sunny days. It can be a beautiful month thanks to the changing colors of the leaves and, in some years, enough gorgeous days to enjoy. Make sure you check the weather forecast and bring an umbrella, just in case.

Telecommunications

Telephone
All telephone numbers in the Czech Republic were changed to conform to the rules of the European Union.

Payphones
There are two types of payphones used in the Czech Republic - those that accept coins and those that accept telephone cards. Both types of payphones can be found easily at many locations in any town or city.

Mobile Phones
There are three main cell phone companies in the Czech Republic. Mobile phone numbers have 9 digits and you can determine the provider by looking at the first 3 digits.

Calling Abroad
To call abroad, dial 00 + country code + national number of the line being called abroad
E.g. to call a number in the United States, dial 00 + 1 + area code + local number

Internet Cafés
Internet cafés with high-speed connection Internet are plentiful in the Czech Republic. You will find one at almost every corner in Prague. Prices and opening hours vary (you will have a hard time finding an Internet café that stays open after 10 pm, even in downtown Prague). You can usually buy a coffee or a drink to sip while browsing.
